| Backgammon Backgammon has been played at the Fox for 10 years. Founded by the noted backgammon author and many times British Champion, Paul Lamford, the club has become one of the strongest in the country but remains fun, friendly, informal and shark-free! Beginners are always welcome.
The
Monday night tournament is a knock out event held every week of
the year where for £25 you can play
5-point matches against a pot-pourri of champions and beginners
and win prize money and acclaim. A two course dinner of your choice
is included in the price. The emphasis on Monday nights is on
fun, learning and socialising. Playing to five points means that
beginners can occasionally beat champions, even Robbie has won..........
Entry is limited to the first sixteen.

Monte Carlo or Bust For several years now David Naylor, Fox player and world-renowned backgammon board maker has organised budget trips to the World Championships in Monte Carlo for Fox players, partners and friends. Whether playing backgammon in the sumptuous surroundings of the Monte Carlo Grand or sunning, drinking and eating at the beach bar in Cap d'Ail, a fantastic time is had by one and all and more and more people join this group each year. This year, 2004, we have an outright winner in the lovely form of Will Richardson who won the consolation tournament and you can inspect his trophy here at the Fox. We are even more pleased that he has stopped wearing his dark glasses and baseball cap. Recent noted successes of people who began playing backgammon at the Fox include: Monte Carlo 2004 Will Richardson winner consolation Intermediate, Al Hogg, who was runner up in the 2002 European Championship held in Slovenia, Dod Davies who won 4 finals in one day at the 2001 Las Vegas Open in addition to his British Championships, Shaun Herd who won trophies two year's running in the intermediate division at the Monte Carlo World Championship. Other notable winners include Corinne Sellens and Simon Gasquoine who as part of a Fox team came runner up in the 2000 Monte Carlo World Championship team tournament. Many other players have won trophies both in Britain and abroad. One organization that has done more to promote Backgammon in Britian than any other in the last 10 years is Biba, the British Isles Backgammon Association, run by Michael Crane. Their website is kept up to date with the latest tournaments held in the UK, please check it out at www.backgammon-biba.co.uk. The best quality boards made in the UK are David Naylor's Hand Made Italian leather Backgammon Boards. Please have a look at his website if you want a top quality board.
