The Fox Doubles Tournament
Mike Main brought in two trophies on the 24th February this year and we didn't know what to do with them. Now we do! We held a doubles tournament, details below. We anticipated that the competition would be good fun and good natured, benefitting top players and beginners alike. And were we right! It was terrific.

Entry £10 per player, £20 per team.
100% return fees as prizes. If fully registered winners share £168, runners up £72 and the losing semi-finalists £40.

MONTE CARLO
Intrepid members went to the World Championships again this year, but not in such numbers as previously.
In what is becoming a tradition, all Fox players were knocked out in the first round, but Dod saved our collective and his personal reputation and bank balance, by getting to the quarter-finals of the consolation. Will Richardson did even better and won his consolation tournament.Still, they all enjoyed themselves. See backgammon page
STOKEFEST
Sunday 15th June in the Park. We did our bit with a World Championship Backgammon Warmup in the Big Tent supervised by Mike Mad Monk. Terrific fun, for all details go to Backpacker-backgammon.
If you didn't make it to Stokefest, you certainly missed out on a great day. The weather was fantastic, the crowds huge and good-natured and our tent was packed. Don't miss next year!

TEST CRICKET
I bought six tickets for Sunday 3rd August 2003 test match at Lords between South Africa and England, but they were all snapped up before I could get them onto the website. I should have bought more. Sorry
.
And what a day it was! Even though it was my birthday, I have to say that it was the correct result for South Africa to win. Made even worse with a mad keen South African in attendance. And there was so nearly a game of it. Butcher and Hussain were well in control until five minutes before lunch when the red mist descended and they collapsed like the Englishmen they are. It was the turn of the clowns next and Flintoff did us and himself proud - huge strokes, a broken bat and the ball pinging to every corner of the ground. Spice was added to the performance for us because Dod had a spread bet on England at 410 runs. £4 a run. Above 410 he wins, below he loses. Per run. He was 70 odd runs short ie £300 down, when Flintoff started to bash it. Our enthusiasm and explanations spread to other seats and when England did indeed get to 410, the cheer that went up bemused other spectators and players alike. It couldn't keep up much longer and England were all out for 417 - so Dod won £28!
I'm trying to get hold of seats for the Oval Test, so watch this space.
OK. Sorry about this spacewatchers, but the eight tickets I reserved for 7th September for the final Test at the Oval, have all gone. For future events, please get in touch with me beforehand. Again, What a day! A real roller-coaster test match with England securing a win that was unexpected after South Africas large first innings total. And Flintoff biffing it about, and Alec Stewarts last test match. And with the mad keen South African there too. It was all nearly too much.
Sorry,
but no cricket for 2004, personal reasons.
Now,
2005. What a series so far! Who said cricket was boring? Catch
the action on the smallest screen on Church Street. Particularly
on the Sunday, which now seems to be the final day. Or pray
for five days of rain.
